Induction at Ystrad Mynach College 10/12/09 Blog 1/1
Today was the first time that i've visited my work placement in which i will be placed next year and wa a pleasant experience. I arrived at the college at 10.30 plenty of time for a nice hot drink as the interview started at 11am. At the interview there was 5 other PGCE Students, one in which i knew (Ann), the other 4 were from Cardiff University. We met the head of department first and she explained a bit about the campus then we were seperated into our specialist areas. For me my subject is Sociology but i've also had experience in the field of Health & Social Care, so i will be based in the Caring block (G Block). I met the Head of Health and Social Care and we went over a few rules and regulations. I also met most of the teachers and introduced my self to them. I had my photo taken for my staff badge. I also went into one of the Health and Social Care groups, it was a christmas party and was invited to induldge in chocolate gateu! which i enjoyed!
Throughout the talk with the Head of Health & Social Care, she talked about their being staff off, so it will be an intense next couple of months! She is going to e-mail me my timetable before christmas! She is not sure who my mentior will be yet as the person she wanted is off on the sick so weren't sure who she was going to pick yet! However, she have asked me to start on the 4th January 2010 and 9am and ro report to her office! She was really helpful! Also she suggested that next year i go out on the students workplacements and have a look at how the NVQS are assessed.
So 2010 will be the start of my teaching journey! I'm very optimistic over it and am looking forward to working at Ystrad Mynach.
