Interesting series on Radio 4, 8pm on Wednesday evenings. Does shouting have a long term impact on children? How can parents help children with mental health issues? What are the issues around blended families, and so on. At the time of writing they've already been two episodes but they can currently be downloaded from the BBC "Listen Again" service at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00jj0s5

Interesting feature on Woman's Hour on Monday on Single Children Families. To quote the BBC web site -
"The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show a steady rise in the number of only children. How does being an only child affect us?  Does it create a more motivated adult, a spoilt adult or make no difference?  What are the long term consequences of smaller families for us as a society with an ageing population?  Sheila McClennon is joined by Damon Syson, journalist and father of one, Ann Richardson, a psychotherapist specialising in single child adults, and an only child herself, and Anastasia De Waal Head of Family and Education at Civitas, and youngest of five."

One of the speakers, Ann Richardson, is director of the "Being an Only" group and you can visit their website at http://www.beinganonly.com/index.html - it's is well worth a look. Strangely, while looking up the URL for the site I noticed that there was a picture of me on it. Funny old world. You can listen to the Woman's Hour feature (for the next few days) at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/womanshour/03/2009_14_mon.shtml
