This one's quick and easy to make, and cheap too. Good winter food.

8 oz red Lentils
2 Pints Stock (I use Vecon)
1 L Onion
2 Garlic Cloves
1 tsp cumin
s & p
Wash the lentils and then put all the ingredients in saucepan. Simmer for 15-20 minutes. until the lentils are soft. Liquidize, season, reheat gently and serve. I've sprinkled sesame salt over it in the photo, because that's always pretty nice on soup. How do you make sesame salt? Just brown 8 tablespoons of sesame seed in the oven, or in a pan, add 1 tablespoon of salt and then run through a food processor. It's always worth having a jar of this standing by, it's great on jacket potatoes too.
The concept of post traumatic stress is a sadly familiar one, but the idea that the trauma of one generation can have an impact on the next is perhaps less so. This was briefly covered on the World Service recently. I don't know how long this link will last but, at the moment, you can listen to the programme on

You might already have seen BBC 2's Documentary of the week - 'The Fallen' in which case it would be good to read your comments. Whatever your view of the war on Afghanistan, this documentary is a vivid description of the way that grief impacts on individuals and families. The documentary lasts 3 hours and it takes some stamina to watch. Your instinct as you observe grief that is so raw and overwhelming may be to turn away from it. This is a common reaction to grief. If you can though, give it a go - being mindful that it may trigger memories of your own griefs. You will be able to record see the programme on BBC iPlayer - this link should take you there.

We've now gone through the data from our online 3 week evaluation and you'll find the School's response with this posting. Many thanks to those of you who took the time out to tell us about your experiences so far - it was much apprecitated. There will be other evaluations during the year, and we hope that you'll take part in those too - and that you'll encourage your friends and colleagues to do so also. Without your feedback we can't ever be sure of what your time with us is really like.
Some years ago Dorothy Rowe came to Newport to run a workshop for us and to record a video/dvd. You'll find a copy of that in the library but this is just to say that she has a new book out called "What Should I believe" which looks as if it might be interesting. You can download a copy of one chapter from the following link, and listen to an interview with her -http://www.routledgementalhealth.com/dorothy-rowe/
