A particularly tasty and easy recipe, and one that's all the better for not being slightly overcooked as it is in the picture below. Don't really know why I used it, all these pictures look pretty much the same - I could probably have used the chick pea curry one and no-one would have noticed...

1lb Parsnips
1 Can tomatoes
2 Tb Oil
1 Large Onion
2 Tb Yoghurt
half pint vegetable stock
half tsp mustard power
quarter tsp Paprika
2 oz breadcrumbs
2 oz cheese

Heat the oil and saute the onions until transparent. slice parsnip into chips and add to onions, saute for about 3 minutes, and then stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook for a further 6 minutes. Stir in the stock (I usually use Vecon), mustard and paprika and lower the heat, cover  and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the yoghurt. (The number of times I forget to do that, and only notice the yoghurt after we've eaten the meal!) Put in an overproof dish. Top with breadcrumb and grated cheese. Cook at 200 for 45 minutes to 1 hr.

'Self Help and Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy’

Clients with common mental health problems are helped best when they are shown how to help themselves. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a therapeutic approach that incorporates some elements of self help within a traditional therapist led setting. And yet, CBT, with its clear practical emphasis, lends itself well to computerization. We have developed Blues Begone, a third generation computerised CBT product, which uses our ‘Active Self Help’ approach. The Blues Begone programme offers the opportunity to fully automate effective treatment of common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety, for some clients. Preliminary data will be presented that illustrate what can be achieved with this 21st Century approach.

Think you could be there when others are not?

Nightline is a help and information line run by students for students. I doubt if this would be something that Diploma students could count against their counselling hours, but it would be incredibly good exerience for anybody interested in a career in the helping professions. To be honest, it wouldn't look bad on your CV either. If you're interested in getting involved then contact Rebecca in Student Services or email nightline@newport.ac.uk

You'll find an interesting range of video clips on gay issues on the Pink Therapy site. Look at the menu over on the left hand side of the page and click on "Self Help Videos".

This is to let you know about a special event taking place on the Caerleon campus on the afternoon of next Thursday - January 24th. It's called "Making Newport (even) Better" and staff and students will be working together with an outside facilitator (David Seel) who is skilled in the management of change. At students at Newport this should be of interest to you, but as counselling students it may well be particularly interesting to see how someone works with large numbers of people, many of whom are likely to have different agendas as well as common concerns. The enclosed attachment will give you further information.

Do come if you can, and if you could also let me know that you're coming (asap) that would be helpful so that we have a clearer idea of numbers for catering.
