This is a particularly fiddly recipe - and you really need a food processor to do it justice - but it's well worth the effort. Once upon a time I pretty much earnt my living cooking this dish - how's that for building employability into the blog?!

8oz mushrooms
6oz cheese
6 oz breadcrumbs
4oz butter or margarine
2 cloves garlic
2 chopped onions
2 eggs
1 tsp marmite
black pepper
1 glass red wine

Melt the butter or margarine and sauté onions, mushrooms and garlic – cook gently for about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and add grated cheese, marmite, breadcrumbs, pepper, wine and egg yolks. Whisk egg whites and then fold into mixture. Put through blender and spoon into a greased loaf tin. Bake for 40 mins at about 180. Once it's cooled you can generally turn it out onto a plate but if it sticks there's no problem in just scooping it out into a bowl - it tastes so good that no-one is going to mind that much about what it looks like! At Christmas I use Stilton for the cheese and subsitute some of the wine with sherry. Depending on what else you're eating this will serve between 6 and 8 people. It's pretty nice served with freshly baked bread - the par baked french sticks that supermarkets sell are just fine. On top of everything else this freezes particularly well.
Just to say that I've now put DVDs of both parts of this programme in the library. It's unusual for a TV programme like this, one that looks as if it might have something usuful to say, to actually deliver the goods - but this is one I'd really recommend.

Just a note to tell you that Gwyneth Lewis (first national poet of Wales) will be reading from her non-fiction books (Sunbathing in the Rain: A Cheerful Book about Depression, and Two in a Boat) at 2pm on the 24 January at the University of Wales, Newport. This will be on the Caerleon campus. To book a place at this free event please contact Mary Smith by email or on 01633-432114

If you're studying human development, and particularly if you're interested in the early developmental stages, and mother/baby relationships, then you'll find this Channel 4 TV programme well worth watching. This is a two part series and the second part will be screened on December 10th at 8pm. It explores the experiences of a mother who loves one of her twins but feels no maternal bond with the other. I'll be putting a copy of the first part of the series into the library in the next few days, but you can also watch clips of it on line by clicking here.

Here's some advance notice of a workshop taking place on March 14th in Preston. The organisers say it would be of interest to

·        Counsellors/Psychotherapists

·        Student Counsellors/Psychotherapists

·        Supervisors

·        Trainee Counsellors/Psychotherapists

Preston probably seems like a long way away - and indeed it it is - but if you want further details you'll find an attachment with this posting giving you further information.
