Just a note to say that BACP will be holding an accreditation workshop in Newport on Friday 10th November. A member of BACP's professional assessment team will lead the workshop and the content will include: - An explanation of the counsellor accreditation criteria - Advice on completing the forms - Guidance on the purpose of the philosophy statement and case studies and what should be included - Opportunities for questions - A chance to meet with other potential applicants for network and support. There will be a charge of £50.
You can find further details at
http://www.bacp.co.uk/events/workshops.htmlIn fact, at the time of writing the details of this workshop have not yet been posted at the above address - it'll be worth revisiting the site in a month or so I suspect!

with an impromtu fashion show. Sorry, this is a bit of an in-joke - nothing to do with counsellilng at all!
Over the years a lot of "big names" in the world of counselling have visited the university and we've almost always managed to video them. Sometimes the resulting video has been a commercial product which we then sell, but sometimes it's just been a tape of a keynote speech or workshop which has been made on the condition that it wouldn't be sold - but in either case there are always copies of all the tapes we've made in the library.

Among the people you'll find there are Gerard Egan, Windy Dryden, Pete Sanders, Dave Mearns (above), Tim Bond, Dorothy Rowe, Michael Jacobs, Francesca Inskipp and Brigid Proctor. The quality of the non commercial tapes is always a bit variable because they've generally been made "under sufferance", simply by putting up a camera somewhere where it wouldn't intrude on other people, but in every case you'll find something worth watching.
If you're on broadband you'll find a lot of audio and video resources
here. They're not
all counselling related files but a lot of them are - including over two hours of video files - so you may well find it a site worth visiting. We'll be adding to these resources over the coming months. If you're not on broadband the video option isn't really worth considering, but the audio files should still be worth looking at. Or listening too.
Some of the books on our booklists can sometimes be difficult to find. Carl Rogers' books, for example, regularly go out of print, as does Kirchenbaum's Carl Rogers Reader. One way of dealing with this is simply to look on eBay. You can, for example, find all the Carl Rogers books that are currently available there simply by clicking here.

The idea of on-line auctions might seem a bit risky to you but I have to say I've been using eBay for several years now and have never had any sort of problem - the only thing to watch out for is how much postage the seller is charging - sometimes it can cost more than the book! If you feel that you might need a bit of help in this area just just click on "comments" (just below this message) and leave a query in the comment box. I - or someone else - will see what can be pulled together
Might be worth knowing that PCCS books offer a 5% (post free) student discount on all their books and 10% (ditto) on orders of 10 or more books. That doesn't have to be the same title, and they're quite used to students clubbing together to make up an order large enough to get the higher discount - you'll find their on-line catalogue
here.
Every year we have the conference, and every year the weather is absolutely baking. It might be a service to South Wales if we were to have it on a weekly basis! This years guest speakers were Brigid Proctor and Francesca Inskipp.
Brigid and Francesca gave a keynote speech to our students in the morning and ran a workshop for outside participants in the afternoon. We made a video of the keynote and that's now available in the library - reasonably enough it's called "Brigid Proctor and Francesca Inskipp at the University of Wales Newport" . We've also turned it into an MP3 file which you can download from the attachments link beneath this entry. It lasts for a little over 44 minutes and the quality of the sound isn't that brilliant, but you may still find it well worth listening to.
Brigid and Francesca have been key figures in British counselling since the earliest days and have played a significant role in the development of counselling training and supervision - we've been delighted that they are keen to work with us. We are currently making a video with them on Group Supervision which should be available in the Autumn. Last year we made another one - "Brigid Proctor and Francesca in Conversation" - you can find out some more about that, and the other videos and DVDs we've made, on our counselling video web page.
