Hi All, Please find attached the exams timetable for this summer.
We're regularly asking you to give us feedback on particular modules but this one is different, it about your whole experience - your course, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, personal development and your overall satisfaction. If you're a final year student - part time or full time -we're asking you to take part in the National Students Survey.

It'll take you about 5 minutes to complete and this year we are offering an incentive of the chance to win one of five £100 cash prizes for those students who complete the survey. (Winners will be randomly selected by the NSS.)
You can find the survey at www.thestudentsurvey.com and you can find out more about the survey at National Student Survey FAQ's
With this posting you'll find the minutes of the School's learning and teaching group - as always, any feedback or comment is welcomed.
Please find attached the minutes from last weeks Department Board meeting.
The school is in the process of building a virtual campus for its staff and students on Second Life and we are now at the stage where we’d like some people inside the school to try it out.
So if you are working in a group or a team and you’d like a free virtual home to collaborate and communicate with your colleagues in, then please send an email to Paul.Andrews@newport.ac.uk and he will get back to you with further details.
Thanks for reading.

'Basic Income and Paternalism'
Dr Tony Fitzpatrick
University of Nottingham
http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/sociology/people/atoz.php?id=NjA0NTYx&page_var=personal
The policy of a Basic Income - where all citizens are provided with sufficient resources to live on - is to many a powerful solution to problems around creating equality of opportunity, and fairness in distributing resources. But does that the fact that Basic Income is an unconditional scheme also make it a non-paternalistic one - i.e., one which avoids being overly directive about how citizens should live their lives? The answer to this depends upon the social, political and moral ends that we see as desirable. This presentation discusses paternalism in relation to theories of distributive justice - particularly luck egalitarianism - and draws out the potential implications for Basic Income debates on that basis.
Venue: MB A24, Caerleon Campus
Time: 2pm
Though all are very much welcome, places are limited. For further details, and/or to confirm that you would like to attend, please contact Gideon Calder.
