Hi all!
The student mentors have a budget to fund a couple of activities and events for students throughout the year so everyone gets a chance to meet up for some social time.
The first one we are organising is a bowling trip for all hss students for after Christmas. It will take place on Monday January 26 in the new Bowlplex in Cwmbran. It’s important that everyone is there at 5.30 PM. Unfortunately we are unable to provide transportation so you will need to make your own arrangements to get there and back.
However there are only 60 places, so it’s first come first serve. if you’d like to go please contact Kate Schofield by Monday January 19th 2009 at the latest
on the following email address:
Kate.schofield@students.newport.ac.uk
Hope to see you there!
Best wishes and Happy Christmas from your student mentors

As part of the 60th anniversary of the modern welfare state, CCLL are screening the Ken Loach’s Classic Docu-Drama ‘Cathy Come Home’. This powerful and harrowing story, first broadcast in 1966, tackled issues that were not widely discussed in the media such as homelessness, unemployment and mother’s rights. It may have helped change British law on these issues!
Tracey Sutton from Welsh Women’s Aid will be giving a short introduction discussing the social impact of the film, and we also have a few written words from Ken Loach about the state we’re in.
This is also a chance to take a look at the website that staff from CCLL have been working on: http://welfarestate2008.newport.ac.uk
The screening will take place on Thursday 4th December, 5pm, room RM/E10 on the Caerleon Campus.
