Mentors aren't just Mentors of course, they're students too. We asked them for a few tips they might give to anyone joining us next year and this is what they said.
"Get a list of taxi numbers and find out the time of the buses between Caerleon and the AYY campus - check out both libraries."
"one of the things that worried me when I first came to the university was simply finding my way around the different buildings. Go the main university web site and you'll find a map of the campus - print out a copy!"
"Join a society or club. It will help you to make friends and fully participate within the university"
"Try the entertainment at the uni like the balls and parties and give it a chance. Remember that a night is what you make it"
"Don't leave your assignments to the last minute, try and organise your time with a good balance of everything"
"Tesco white label to save money"
"Ask for help when you need it"
"Visit the study zone - they'll help you"
"lose your inhibitions but keep your senses"
"Join a sports team/social club"
"Go to the fresher's fair. Join the football team"
"Want to play hockey? Come and see me"
"Chose your friends wisely"
"Parking permit is cheaper if you share"
"Always be calm and never stress"
"Don't always buy take aways - learn to cook"
We asked last year's mentors the same question, and you can download a soundfile of their responses by clicking on the link below.
Our mentors for 07-08 have recently been appointed and have started their training. If you're planning on joining us as a first year student you may well be hearing from one of them some time over the summer - you'll certainly be meeting some of them on induction week. If you need to contact them you can do so from their email links.
