A very hectic and tiring week! I have been working flat out for the last six days: Uni assignment and lesson plan non-stop! I am glad I don’t have to prepare a lesson plan for tomorrow. I can just sit back and be one of those college students ‘Wat?! I don’t understand’ and ‘I don’t know what I’m doing’ for a change!!
Something I have learned from this week’s teaching experience is that I must have failed to deliver my lesson effectively because the students didn’t do their assignments correctly. I started questioning myself whether it was to do with my teaching, to do with the information taught or was I teaching them a wrong concept?
I had to review the topic myself and tried to break down the content into many shorter questions to help and guide the students. The Co-ordinator of the Unit had a good look at the questions and she thought they were very good, and also agreed that I could not have done it any simpler. Have to wait and see when they hand in their work next Monday. (Part II to be continued!)
Today was my first time to be an assessor myself. A group of BTEC National First Diploma students, who were normally very rebellious, had in fact conducted themselves in a role play extremely well today. I had to assess them and I must say it was quite a hard task, having to listen and make judgements at the same time. I will be observed next week for being an assessor myself.
Another fun week is over! Written on the 4th Feb 2010.
