What a Feeling.....

Thursday 14th January 2010

Class: Foundation

There were only 6 students in the class this afternoon which gave me plenty of time to speak with each student individually, so I spent the afternoon doing one to one tutorials and journal work.  Tutorials really are an important part of the teaching process, when an idea suddenly clicks with a student and you see their obvious excitement it means you’ve done your job.  There are often doubts about how much a student listens let alone takes on board, so these small breakthroughs are great.

An important part of any art related subject is the visual journal, portfolio, sketch book etc, as this is where a concept becomes a reality.  I can’t remember how many times I’ve heard myself repeat, ‘you really need to write this down’ ......... and now finally, they are.

What a great feeling!

It turned into a bit of an interesting lesson actually, as it was the first time any of the students have questioned me about my experiences in University.  They wanted to know if I missed being there and how I coped with the work load.  It seems they’re accepting that I’m there to stay (for awhile at least) and they want to know who I am and where I’ve come from!

It’s an interesting time for them at the moment; as each is in the process of applying through UCAS for University.  They are curious of what lays ahead.....it’s still very fresh for me – and I feel I can give them an honest and up to date version of events.
